Climate, Energy, and Security Fellowship
The Climate, Energy, and Security Policy Fellowship at the Asian School of Governance supports graduate students and professionals conducting research and policy work in these critical fields. The fellowship is designed for those pursuing academic research through policy analyses, policy projects, or research papers that align with the Center’s focus areas.
Fellowship Themes
Fellows' research and policy work should focus on at least one of the following themes:
Climate and Security Governance – Addressing climate risks in fragile and conflict-prone regions, integrating climate security into national and regional policies, and strengthening governance mechanisms.
Energy Transition and Security – Developing policy frameworks for renewable energy, ensuring energy security, and promoting sustainable financing for energy transition projects.
Geopolitics of Climate and Energy – Analyzing geopolitical trends affecting climate and energy security, fostering regional and global partnerships, and engaging in diplomatic efforts.
Institutional Innovation for Climate and Energy Policy – Applying adaptive governance methodologies such as Harvard’s Problem-Driven Iterative Adaptation (PDIA) to facilitate new institutional arrangements within the policy ecosystem.
Eligibility Criteria
Open to graduate students (Master’s and PhD) from accredited institutions worldwide
Open to professionals from government, private sector, academe, and civil society organizations
Research topics must align with at least one of the fellowship themes
Applicants must demonstrate strong academic merit and a commitment to policy-relevant research
Fellows must have at least one university-based academic adviser and one industry-based adviser to guide their work

Note: This fellowship does not provide financial support

Application Process
Submit an online application, including a research proposal (max. 1,500 words)
Provide academic transcripts and two letters of recommendation
Shortlisted candidates will undergo an interview process
Applicants must submit documentation confirming their university-based and industry-based advisers
Fellowship Outputs
Fellows are expected to submit:
A mid-term research progress report
A final research paper, policy analysis, or policy project report
A policy brief summarizing key findings and recommendations
Two 6-minute video milestone reports summarizing research progress
